Electric car maker, Tesla has launched a new EV model which has been as a new approach of making the use of green vehicles common among the growing population. This model has not yet been fully christened, and the working title used is the Model 2, and this particular car is to be the most ‘cheap’ Tesla yet, costing $25000 as a starting price.
Presenting the futuristic automobile at a highly-charged event held at the recently completed Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, Musk said the Model 2 will be manufactured at the start of 2025. Compact hatchback-style EV will directly target the delivery of affordable small cars that dominate the global automotive market, which in turn may help drive the EV revolution globally.
As mentioned earlier, the Model 2 has pretty spectacular features for a car in its class. The vehicle has a possible range of up to 250 on a single charge and is expected to be an attempt to solve one of the key concerns among potential buyers of electric vehicles, the issue of range. Tesla said that the new model will take only 20 minutes to charge by the company’s Supercharger from 10% to 80%.
Concerning the Model 2, the base model is expected to sprint from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in 5.8 seconds, which is quite impressive for this market segment. The automobile will further introduce all new Autopilot that will allow customers to upgrade to the full self-driving system.
Musk said that this new model would be crucial to Tesla’s goal of helping the world shift to sustainable energy as quickly as possible. ”The Model 2 is the solution for making electric vehicles affordable to everyone,” he said when delivering the presentation. Therefore, it’s our bet that this car is going to popularize electric cars just like the Model T did with gasoline cars.
The announcement has caused waves not only because it revealed that Tesla is working on developing sedan Model 2 while also hinting that more substantial shock may be on its way; several analysts have explained that Tesla Model 2 can create very serious impact on the affordable car market. This change to compelling, low pricing by Tesla and establishment automakers are likely to feel growing pressure to step up their own EV initiatives.
The reasons why Tesla has been able to launch such an affordably priced car include the following; breakthroughs in battery technology, strong car assembly line techniques and sheer vehicle manufacturing volume that comes from increased production. The next car under this new model will incorporate Tesla’s next generation battery cells which are lighter, possess more energy and are cheaper to manufacture than the present generation of battery cells.
The Model 2 has borrowed from the basic design philosophy of Tesla, featuring a slim exterior and as much interior space as can safely be offered given its segment. The car will come equipped with an enormous central screen, like most Teslas, to manage the majority of the automobile functions. Nevertheless, in order to maintain competitive prices that are affordable for as many consumers as possible, some of the features available in other Tesla models, including the more luxurious ones, will be available only as additional options.
The announcement has been overwhelmingly applauded by environmental organizations as a new hope towards decreasing carbon footprint from the transport sector. The expansion of the Model 2 will mean that a large number of people will be able to afford an electric vehicle, especially in rapidly developing cities where distances between locations are generally short.
But some car industry analysts have questioned whether Tesla would meet these goals since the company has consistently missed production goals and faced quality concerns. These two issues were on the radar for Tesla and Musk said that the company has realized its mistakes and has since adjusted on how it will launch the Model 2.
The announcement has also sparked debates over an increased demand for the charging facilities amidst the increasing number of the electric cars. Tesla also intends to maintain the Supercharger network as a feature for the Model 2 and has recently made this particular network available to all electric cars in certain regions.
Tesla expects the Model 2 to be popular when it opens its preorders by the end of this year. The firm has not disclosed specific production goals; however, it has noted its intention to increase production capability massively to cater for expected market demand.
Even as the rest of the automotive industry focuses on electric cars, Tesla has decided to go a step further and create an entirely new segment of affordable electric cars embodied in Model 2. If successful it can hasten early days of mass market demand for EVs, and apply further pressure on the established internal combustion engine car makers to enter electric vehical market.
